Running the Race for Gold

With the Olympics on our televisions every night, there’s been a lot of talk about several athletes breaking records for the number of medals being won by an athlete in a single Olympic games. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps now has 28 medals over the course of four Olympics, of which 23 are gold. 23 gold medals! I read recently that if Michael Phelps were his own country, he would rank 59th as the most decorated country since the first summer Olympics held in 1898.

As for me, I have often said that if dropping my phone without it breaking were…

Worship Confessional (of a sort)

Many of you probably have no idea, but earlier in my life, music was kind of a big deal. I played an instrument in band, I could read music really well and I was a classically trained vocalist. And when I first became a Christian as a teenager, God used my vocal skills (and my love for the spotlight) to lead students in worship in my church’s youth band.

Even though I had lost most of my skills out of lack of training over the years, a few years ago I joined the adult worship team. But when this…

There will be a day when the burdens of this place, will be no…

Dianna Brown

Tonight, I have to say “see you soon” to one of the most remarkable women I have ever had the privilege to know, love, serve with and call my friend. Her name was Dianna Brown. The last of the original “God Squad” as they coined themselves.

I will never forget the day I met her. It was my first week in charge of the weekend bulletin and I was getting everything ready for the “God Squad” to arrive. I had no idea what to expect. And well, I was 19…

I’m Not Gonna Steal Your Husband

This post might get me into trouble. I’ve been sitting on it for a few months and when Los posted about something similar last night… I decided to pull the trigger. But honestly, this post was going to be a lot more feisty. This is all you get today.

If you’re in ministry, then you know about “The Rule.” The rule about men and women being alone together. Its a respectable rule. One that I’ve been under since I first entered ministry as an intern some 8 years…

Are you ready for a miracle?

So, this will likely be my last political post until our next presidential election but I did want to leave you with one message.

Barack Hussien Obama will take the oath of office tomorrow (or today, depending on when you’re reading this) and will be our president for at least the next four years. And I just have a little advice for all Americans waiting anxiously for the “change” that’s coming.

Please don’t look to Obama as some sort of Savior. Take responsibility for yourselves. He can’t and won’t rescue you from piling credit card debt. Or when your insurance company…

So, I’m Writing a Book… WHAT?!

I know the bondage of sexual sin and addiction. Since the age of 10, I have struggled with some form it. What I’ve noticed in my 14+ years of experience is the lack of resources for women to find freedom. Sure, there’s some of books about porn and sexual addiction for men. But try and find something targeted at women that shows a real woman’s story, biblical and relevant tools for overcoming the struggle that also provides hope, and you will be hard pressed to find anything. I know, because I’ve looked! I spent years in bondage just looking…

Monday Weigh-in #8

Okay friends, I did a lot better this week on staying on track. I allowed myself a few cheats but kept it pretty well within my point allowance. So, yea me.

By the way…. I don’t cook.

It is not that I can’t cook as much as it has been a lazy choice and something I am not all that experienced at. But this diet has really challenged in me in that area. In the last week, I have cooked things I never thought I would on my own. I am most proud of my trout fillet and spaghetti squash adventure….

getting IT back…

the last few days have been seen through old cynical eyes and tear-blurred eyes and fresh new eyes. i’m overwhelmed by Him and don’t have sufficient words to describe anything i am feeling. the only feeling i can describe semi-accurately is how i feel like i just returned from summer camp.

God is more intimate with me in this moment than i’ve been with Him in a long time.

i will share more soon.

“the pain inside has erased your hope for love but soon you will find
that I’ll give you all that your heart could ever want and so much more….
