From the Desk of Crystal Renaud

How’s that for an official heading? Funny, in that I actually don’t have a desk at home.

But anyways . . .

I wrote a post earlier this week as part of’s series on life transitions to announce something pretty big happening in my life and how it will affect the future of Dirty Girls Ministries. In case you missed the tweets, status updates, etc. referring to this announcement, I wanted to share it here as well. Thank you for the support you’ve shown me and this ministry, whether you’ve been following us for 3 years,…

Resolutions Aren’t Magical

I remember when I was an addict that a new year always meant an opportunity for a fresh start. I’d get all excited and say to myself that I’d never look at porn again.

As if the clock striking midnight was going to magically wipe away the years of bondage I’d been trapped in.

The years of shame.
The years of living in secret.
The years of filling old wounds with junk that would never satisfy.

And yet I believed it. I believed that making a decision based on tradition was going to magically change me—only to wake up on New Year’s Day just as…

What’s More Uncomfortable to Talk About than Porn?

Money is such a touchy subject. Especially in this current economic climate. And partner that with another touchy subject like Pornography Addiction and you’ve got yourself quite the uncomfortable mix.

But that’s exactly what I’m doing.

If I entitled this post something like, “year-end giving” you probably wouldn’t have read it.

But December 31 will mark the end of the 2010 tax-year and we would be insanely grateful if you would think of us with a financial year-end gift. Your gift will enable us to continue our ministry to women as well as allow us to achieve some really exciting plans we have for…

Agreeing with the Devil

My LifeGroup is currently reading, When Heaven Invades Earth by Bill Johnson. To be honest it is a challenging book even on some doctrinal levels for me. However, the other night I read this paragraph and it has been messing with me ever since. . .

. . . in a good way.

“Satan didn’t come into the Garden of Eden violently and take possession of the Adam and Eve. He wouldn’t! Why? He had no dominion there. Dominion empowers. And since man was given the keys of dominion over the planet, the devil would have to get his authority…

My Biggest Addiction Isn’t to Porn

For as long as I can remember I have had an issue with pride.

I can remember back to the 4th grade when I was given a solo in the school Christmas program. I was all jazzed about getting to sing my heart out with my very own microphone. But then the week of the program, my music teacher decided she wanted another girl to sing with me.

A duet.

Even on the night of the program I remember pushing myself ever closer (and pushing her further away) to the microphone so that my voice would carry over hers. After all, I…

D-Day Tomorrow. I Need Your Best Music Picks.

I have a confession.

I haven’t been to the dentist in 10 years.

I have no great excuse for this other than allowing fear to rule this area of my life for a very long time. Ever since I had a choice about going to the dentist (I grew up with a former dental hygenist as a mom) I have chose not to go. Lots of excuses. But at the end of the day—fear chose for me. And eventually the embarrassment began to outweigh the fear. Even if I suspected an issue.

The sights. The sounds. The smells. The whole experience—Paralyzes me.

Tomorrow I…

Could He Take Away My High School Diploma?

Addiction recovery is a continuous process. No matter if it is day 1 or day 2,290 of our recovery we must choose daily to surrender to God, confess to others, accept accountability, take responsibility for what we do and share our story.

Hmm, those steps would fit nicely into a book – perhaps in an acronym of some kind 😉

Even 8 years into my own recovery I am still engaged in the process and today I took responsibility for something I did 10 years ago. The following letter began as a letter to my 4th grade teacher about a writing assignment I lied about completing (sort…

Your Story in “Dirty Girls” the Book

For my forthcoming book “Dirty Girls”, I’m collecting the stories of women who have experienced an addiction to pornography.

Whether you’d still consider yourself addicted or have found victory from your struggle, I would like to read your story for possible inclusion in my book. God never wastes an experience. Perhaps this is your opportunity to have yours used by Him to help others out of the dark.

Email me your 750-1000 word stories by Wednesday, September 1 to the address — I’d also appreciate just a “heads-up” email letting me know you’ll be submitting it.

Stories should include 1) how…
